PresentationThe first Argentinean Congress of Paleontology and Biostratigraphy was hosted in Tucumán in 1974 and ever since has been convened every four years: Buenos Aires (1978), Corrientes (1982), Mendoza (1986), Tucumán (1990), Trelew (1994), Bahía Blanca (1998), Corrientes (2002), and lastly Córdoba (2006), where La Plata was selected for the 2010 Congress. The
first Latin American Congress of Paleontology was
held jointly with the Second Argentinean Congress of Paleontology
and Biostratigraphy in Buenos Aires (1978). Subsequent
congresses were held in 1981 (Porto Alegre, Brasil), 1984 (Oaxtepec, México),
1987 (Santa Cruz de La Plata is strongly linked to the history of Paleontology in Argentina and Latin America, which makes it an outstanding location for these meetings. It is home to the Museo de La Plata, a pioneering institution in the development of Paleontology in South America, and also to one of the largest communities of paleontologists in the world. For many years it was also the residence of the Ameghino brothers, whose contributions to early paleontological research in Argentina are well known worldwide. La Plata is also near the city of Buenos Aires, home to the Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales “Bernardino Rivadavia”, which houses another large paleontological collection. We hope to have you as a guest in La Plata and enjoy together a fruitful week of academic debate, exhibits and social activities. All future information on this Congress will be posted in our web page, including deadlines, registration, symposia, and abstract submissions. We suggest you visit it frequently in order to obtain updated information. If you have problems accessing the webpage, please contact us at paleo2010@fcnym.unlp.edu.ar
